Is that what the young smiling soldier is wearing? Why would he be wearing a converted officeer's tunic?

Yes that is the one. A lot of officers wore enlisted men uniforms (in this case an EM Model 1940 tunic) and just added officer insignia to them. Why? Because it was a lot cheaper than having a tailor uniform made which in any case was usually a bit of a waste when lying in dirt at the front. Tailor made uniforms are seen at the front but a lot were only used when on leave.

He's certainly not flying personnel. Looks more like flak from the waffenfarbe.

The top two are EKII, the bottom row are KVKII

                          Hi Willem,

Thanks. I think he must've been new to combat as the EKII is his only apparent combat decoration. The badge he has, is only a sports badge.

Ive always thought that Simon, but he most certainly is wearing JG52 unit pin/s....which is kinda odd. Maybe he had previous service w/ JG52?? Any thoughts?
And good eye on the KVK2 ribbons!! Ive always overlooked that until you mentioned it! Thank You

                                Hi Steve,

Thanks. It seems he was actually a leutnant wearing a modified M40 jacket. Very interesting. Since he has no badges, other than that sports one, I have to assume that he was fairly new to combat.
