New acquisitions to share: 4 Berghof ruin photos

    Hi guys-

I would like to share some new acquisitions with you. These came from a good friend at a very good price; 4 (I believe to be private, unpublished) photos of the Berghof ruin, circa 1946, still mounted on pages from the photo album from which they were removed (they originally purchased that way). Two are close-ups of the berghof, another was taken from Bormann’s house, the last from Göring’s. The composition on these is just exquisite, and the detail is quite crisp.

    Anyway, hope you enjoy them!

    Rob

(P.S. - sorry about the copyright watermarks, but as you know - these days it's necessary

At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

Thanks for posting that link. So much for the "private, unpublished" theory

I can't remember ever seeing any of these shots anywhere else, but the composition and clarity do scream "professional" so I'm not too surprised.

Still, great pictures on period photo album pages at a reasonable price, so I'm happy
