      Chay,

First time using Forum (alot of posts???) - Anyway - Meet a fellow Death Card collector - in fact I can go one further to say I am writing a book on the subject. I love collecting Death Cards as each one holds so much information and you can learn quite a bit from each one.

To answer your question - not really. Death Cards that state the soldier was killed fighting Partisans or Terrorists is common and there are a quite a few around. What I have found that is rare is a Soldier who has been awarded the Bandenkampfabzeichen which is stated on the death card. I have seen only 1 (many times though) which is of an SS soldier with this award on the card. I am not sure though if it is a fake as I haven't got my hands on one. I have attached an orignal one I quickly found in my collection.

      Cheers

      Scott

          Scott, I await your book!
I collect Deathcards only pertaining to Panzerpioniere, I have over 100 different ones to Pz.Pi.

I collect death cards as part of my ever expanding "paper doc" collection.

They display great when placed in protective sleeves. When my war room is finished early this summer I'm going to save a corner of the room for a death card display.

            Thanks,
            Mike

I have 170 death cards which I collected through the years. I have managed to put them all together in a Excel database showing surname, first name, rank, unit, birth place and date, awards, place of death and date, age and under which circumstances and other information and also the printer of the death card.

I even have scanned front and back of all cards and linked these to my database to ease any searching. Maybe to, one day fill any holes regarding to missing soldiers in lost graves or to maybe put a face to a name given on grave pictures or gear.

It has become an impressive collection now, much info on individuals I could expand through a search on the website of Deutsche Kriegsgräber Fürsorge.

I wonder if other collectors would do the same to maybe in the future compile a large database for all here to use. What do you think?

I think it is a great idea. I have nearly 1000 but I will not go down this path with the whole collection. I have a databse for ones that I will keep but the others that I will sell so no need to spend time doing a database for them. Great idea all the same - well done.

                  Cheers

                    Sterbebilder-info

You all could consider to send all that info to member GJR100 so it can be placed on:

                    http://www.deutschesoldaten.info

People who have soldbuch, wehrpasses etc. can find the info their and complete it with what they have.

                    Information not shared is lost.

Thanks for all the replies so far, people are asking if I have cetrian people in my collection so there is a cause to make a database. This is a good link to give all information to, pity it is not a part of this site though.

Ha, death notices, I love them.
                        Morbid fascination?
No, loads of Catholics collect those, so why a militaria collector should not?
I got hundreds of them, but only few make it to the album.
I wanted to show you one of my favourites: meet Josef Held.
Josef was awarded with the EK 1, EK 2, Nahkampfspange, Sturm- , Verwundeten- and Westwallabzeichen.
Take a look at his beautiful picture.
                        His surname is Held.
Translated to English, that will be?
                        Right: Hero!!!

                        Best regards,
                        Matin
