Story Behind this 19 ID Photo??

I am curious to hear your opinions on the photo's subject matter. The photo was taken during the Polish campaign by the Der Sp. of the 7th Company, 73 Schutzen Regiment, 19th Infantry Division and shows one glimpse the aftermath following the Battle for Kutno. The white flag, it would seem, sheds some light on the story behind the photo?

No doubt that such things happened but I think it is not good, fair, serious whatever to draw any conclusions out of just this single photo.
