Photo with DDR Postdam Militaratchiv stamp, fake or not?

    Hi!

I bought this photo recently and I was assured by the seller that it is original. The photo has a stamp on the reverse from the DDR POTSDAM MILITARARCHIV. After careful examination at home I have my doubts. Will appreciate any comments. Many thanks!

I'll appreciate any comment regarding this photo (if it is fake or not), as there could be more of these on the market......

      Hi,

I bought 20 of these last year in Stockholm. I´m no expert in photos and have had no doubts about authencity.

Some of mine have double stamps both Wehrmacht (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht or "Pz Div Feldherrnhalle 2") and DDR...

What are your doubts about? As you can see the handwriting of the ref number on both yours and mine! Bad sign or did you buy yours in the same place (Gamla Stan, small place)?

      Best Regards
      Calle

My first impression of your photo was that I´d seen it before and now I´m pretty sure that I have! Could have been anywhere but I think it was at the place where I bought my photos!

Thanks for your comment and the link. Interesting that the number on the DDR stamp of your photo (the one on the link you provided) says 0314, while in my case is 0413.

I got suspicious about my photo after careful examination, especially when I found out that someone has written on its obverse in russian. Probably someone was writting something on a paper on top of the photo, and pressed too hard... Unfortunately I noticed this only at home. I have not been able to decifer the text in russian. Of course, chances are that some Soviet officer working in DDR Potsdam Militarachiv wrote on top of it, but it sounds just too good to be true. I heard the rumour that many of so cold "military archive" photos are currently being manufactured in Russia or Ukraine...

After examination with magnifying-glass there is no doubt whatsoever that my photos of this type are fake. They are printed in a photo-printer but aged in a smart way!

            Regards
            Calle
