I cannot authenticate the signature, but given the two choices you present, I would read it as Kettel -- definitely the last four letters are "..ttel...".

Prior to reading your text I looked at the signature and tried to decypher it; I thought it read Kittel. So, based on the similarities of your first option and my initial impression, I vote for Kettel.
