Help with "Das Reich" WMC Award Doc

I was lucky enough to acquire a SS "Das Reich" WMC 1st Class Award Doc from Detlev's update today. The doc is the more rare type and only a handful that I have seen myself.

It's awarded to a Hauptscharfuhrer Wilhelm Mick, in January 1945. I was hoping that some of our research experts could provide me with any history on this SS man who served with such a elite unit!

I hope you enjoy the document as well, I really love it. I especially like the super Eagle motif on the doc, although it's difficult to see on the scan

    Thanks for your assistance,
    Mike

Unfortunately I have no help for you...

But I saw that this morning in the update, and thought "Wow that's a great urkunde!!"

    Nice grab, congratulations!

My Das Reich award doc arrived today and it's better in person. The eagle motif on the doc is beautiful when viewed in good light.

I've also found out through some research that it's signed by Werner Ostendorff, a Oakleaves winner and vet of Kharkov, Kursk, and Normandy to name but a few of his many battles.

Sad to learn that he was KIA May 1, 1945 after being wounded at least three times.

      Thanks,
      Mike

Figured I'd give this another shot. Is there anyone able to find some history on this SS soldat that my award doc has been awarded too? I know we have some great researchers in the forum and hope they can help me out!!

              Thanks in advance,
              Mike

According to the SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 Tagesbefehl Nr. 23/44 of 20.04.44, the Oscha. Willi Mick, born 20.12.19, had returned to the regiment after attending a Schirrmeister-Lehrgang in the SS Kraftfahr-Technische-Lehranstalt (KTL) Wien.

Well, he survived the war and was certainly still alive in 1996, when a German newspaper carried his name in their birthday announcements on 20th December 1996. They congratulate a Wilhelm Mick to his 77th birthday...certainly is your man...and now you will also know what town he lived in. Cheers, Torsten.

First Ostendorff signed document I've seen, a historic item. Great commander, but better known as Ia to Paul Hausser (for which he got the KC) at divisional level and Chief of staff of II.SS-Panzerkorps under Hausser.

Thank you all for the help, the info is great.

Does anyone know how I can find out what his military career included? Awards, battles, etc.?

                      Thanks,
                      Mike
