Here's a pic of what Rommels signature is supossed to look like. The one I posted (to me) looks like someones poor attempt to copy it. Just wanted to get some other opinions though.

      Thanks

        Hello Eric,

I don't like the "O" & "L" of Rommel signature. Could you tell me what is the date on the document ?

I have a Rommel signature, and for years I didn't even know I had it. Bought a bunch of routine documents locally from an area that had a large POW camp during the war, mostly Africa Korp POWS. It was an award document for an Iron Cross. Never looked at it again for years, and when I did, something jumped out, and sure enought, it was Rommel's signature on a common document. Still have it. Also bought from a junk store, a small sand stone hand carved pyramid with various locations carved into the sides, quite obvioulsy DAK POW war art. Wish I still had that. Gave it to a guy who was restoring a truck that was used to haul POW's around the local area. It was the actual truck, found in a junk yard.

Mines closer to the second one, it's dated 5.7.41 in Libya, award for the second class cross to Gefreiten Jakob von der Kall.

What strikes me as not being consistent are the letters "R" and "e". However, the old saying is worth bearing in mind, 'if two signatures are identical then one's a forgery'!

Perhaps it might be better to analyse the whole document. That might give a better answer. If the document is spurious then so is the signature but if the document checks out OK and there is no evidence of tampering than there's a good chance the signature is good too.

I've got exactly the same document with the Iron Cross and Rommel's "signature". Do I assume that we both have forgeries?

                      hmmm

Personally, I wouldn't want to own that, Eric . Here is another similar one I wouldn't want either.

I'm guessing Mr. 22B sold his and you have it.

And yes, the others are bad (the first one posted along with the Verleihungsliste posted by Jeremy).
