Hi guys,
I met my first German Panzer vet yesterday and I am trying to piece together information on his unit. Being a bit older, his memory for details has started to fade, especially with regards to his unit. He appears to have served in the 5th panzer regiment before it went to Africa. He was wounded an in a hospital when the 5th went to Africa so he did not go with them. I am assuming he was assigned to another unit at that time but this is where the memory loss hits us. He was a tank commander and was eventually captured in his French Somme tank around Cherbourg after D-day.
Can anyone post pictures of the 5th panzer regiment from the pre-Africa days? A unit photo would be awesome. He thinks he may have his dogtags somewhere so if he finds them I wil hopefully be able to come back with more information.
Thanks in advance!
