    Unidentified Fw-190 D-9 picture

    This really interesting picture of an abandoned "Langnase" Focke-Wulf surfaced recently on the web:



    As far as I can say, it had been taken by a member of US 97th Infantry Division, most likely somewhere in Bavaria or Czechoslovakia. There is another picture of a Panther Ausf. D in the series which definately had been taken in Bamberg. Here is a map showing the in- and out-route of the "Trident" Division:



    I wonder which colour the RVT band might have: yellow-white-yellow or even green-white-green? Or is it simply JG 6's red-white-red? I know it's hard to tell which colour just by a b/w image, maybe someone can identify the airfield buildings in the background...

    From what I understand, this Dora was a JG 2 machine, with yellow/white/yellow bands. Unfortunately, not much more is known about it at this time. I do have another photo of the same airplane from a slightly different angle and an individual aircraft number can't be identified.
