    Narvik photo with French troops

    [Trying the second time...]

    Hello,
    time for another photo.

This one is with French and possible Norwegian troops or civilian resistance.
It's an AgfaLupex photo with the text "Narvik kämpfte" (Narvik fights/fought).

How did this photo end up with German text? Is it a fake made from some book?

The picture itself is fantastic - French troops with Adrian helmets and one is a M35 tankman's helmet. Then there are civilians carrying supplies.

I have cropped out some details of the photo.

    Regards, Stefan

Those are Norwegian troops in the soft caps on the left alright. Looking at the amount of snow, the location and the mix of troops i'd say this was taken during the liberation of Narvik town by French and Norwegian troops at the end of May 1940.

I'm not sure if i've seen this one before somewhere or other. It could be from a camera\film left behind after the allies pulled out, then found and developed by the Germans with soldiers getting copies made.

As the houses on the left are on fire it would seem reasonable to assume the troops are helping people save their stuff
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

                  Hello,

I found the same place from another angle.

As Simon says - It seems that one could buy allied photos from the battle. I've seen many photos like this one and I might have another one from the same house. I got a german album where these allied photos are subtitled with text that it was English fire that made the damage.
