    Coastal battery Cherbourg

    Dear Members,

A friend send me the information about a picture (I can't post attachement) : it is a picture about a coastal battery in Cherbourg. He found this picture on this forum.

In fact, this picture had been taken in fortress Le Havre : it is one of the turret of an unfinished heavy coastal battery (38 cm gun, French origin).

My question is : who posted this picture here? Is it a picture from a serie of pictures?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sébastien HAULE,
    historian,

          Sébastien,

You should post the link to the related thread where this picture was posted. It would greatly help. Do you have to contact the member who originally posted the picture ?

                    Dear Akira,

The picture you post with the firing gun seems to be the batterie Grosser Kurfurst in Pas de Calais, Northern France. It was one of the heavy battery build by German with the view to control the English Chanel.

                      Hello Sebastien,

The photo in question was taken by a GI during WW2. It came out of his photo album with a number of other destroyed flak gun positions. I have since removed that image from my hard drive. If you need a better quality scan I can provide it sometime in the near future.

I must apologize for my abruptness on this because I'm in the middle of packing alot of my collection up. There is a certain Hurricane named Rita heading towards our South Texas Gulf coast where I just happen to be located. I plan on sticking it out (armed of course - no looting will be taking place here..Partner!!). The Army depot where I work is shutting down tomorrow. Hopefully we won't get hit to hard (the base is right on the water). Got a report from our Security personnel that the City of Corpus Christi is starting to evacuate some folks. Hurricane is suppose to hit us Friday night or early Saturday morning. Tomorrow is another day...We shall see what happens!! Bill

Thanks Bill for replying, may there be no real harm on you, your family and your friends there!

Thanks Sébastien for giving me a clue! Great help. Obstlt.(E) Frisch seems to have been responsible for constucting this gun. Interesting sequence is filmed.
