Silver laurel!
Hello,
that seems to be a silver laurel. I cannot tell you, why it was given at the time. Today for example world and olympic champions receive it from of the german minister of the interior (reponsable for sports). It is the highest sport decoration the german state can give. At the time perhaps as usual, everybody even town champions received it with the document.

It was awarded for second place in the triathlon for youth - Dreikampf (Jugend)

They are not rare - lots of them in all grades (Bronze, Silver, Gold) at militaria shows, on militaria websites and e-auctions. The Germans had lots and lots of sports competitions for men, women and kids. Yours is in so-so condition. As to price, well $20-$50 would be about right.Comment
