Mix of SS and Wehrmacht Insignia - Reenactor?

Hi,

I've bought a number of photos from the late Brian L Davis' collections at auction. I'm slowly working my way through and I'm enjoying the learning process (first time collecting anything!). Any idea on what is going on with the man in this photo? He appears to be wearing an SS M40 Field Cap but his collar tabs seem to be Wehrmacht. Is just a reenactor used as reference by Davis or did these branch crossovers happen?

Yes. Police Division. But crossover insignia can be seen in some wartime images. I have some images in my collection showing mixed Heer and SS insignia being worn. Usually it seems to have been done in the field as an expedient to replace lost or damaged insignia.
