Could someone please help to identify those ribbon bars? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Must be some obscure Italian stuff, judging from the width of ribbons?

Could you possibly show the complete image? I'm wondering if he was an Italian serving in some capacity for the Wehrmacht? Some quasi-Sonderfuehrer type?

Thanks for the replies, yes Italian it was I’m thinking as well but I’m not really familiar with them. Here’s the full image:

The style of ribbon bar certainly looks Italian, although I’m assuming the top left ribbon is the KVK 2 class with swords. Bottom left may be for the Italian ‘Cross for Military Valour’, which includes a sword on the ribbon.

Thanks Michael. Could the last one be the Italian-German Africa Medal? The colour scheme doesn’t really work, even if the colour scheme doesn’t really match up.

That’s probably as good a call as any, although there are some points that don’t quite add up. However that could be down to the mounting of the ribbon on the bar, with the first band of colour looking too narrow. You need some of the experts monitoring the General Wehrmacht Awards forum to comment!

The medals shown on the ribbon are as follows:

                  top row:
Order of the Roman Eagle with swords
Colonial order of the star of italy 5th class

                  2nd row:
Cross for military valor (with sword device on ribbon)
                  German italian africa campaign medal

Although an unusual medal grouping, this officer may have been attached to Italian forces in some manner or perhaps even an Italian officer that transferred to the german military at some point. Unless we have a name, we will not know for sure.

                  Cheers

                  Marcus
