Sorry; I can't be more specific than saying it should be from the 1936 to 1939 period.

A Werkschar uniform. Ley held the rank of Der Oberste Werkscharführer.

Thanks, HPL2008 -- so I guess he was present at Ordensburg Vogelsang to encourage students to consider going into positions in the factories as examples of National Socialist Leadership Training.

As Ley was leader of the Deutsche Arbeits Front as well as the Political Organisation, perhaps he was at the Ordensburg to address students on leadership in the DAF?

Ley, as the Reichsorganisationsleiter, was in fact in charge of the entire Ordensburgen project. He had a hand in everything from location and architecture to organisation and curricula and even personally hand-picked the first 500 Junker to attend the Ordensburgen. Thus, he was frequently seen at these locations, starting with the groundbreaking ceremonies.

His role as head of the DAF came in handy for financing the construction of these facilities: He formally made the DAF the developer of the project and thus was able to draw upon its rich funds. This further cemented his near-total control of the project.

By the way, here's some rare Third Reich era TV (yes, TV) footage of Ley:

(This has nothing to do with the above photo; I just thought it would be of interest to the members here.)

"...perhaps [Ley] was at the Ordensburg to address students on leadership in the DAF?"

A good suggestion, Joe...but in that case, I would think that wearing his Reichsleiter uniform would have been more impressive and to the point...?
