I am looking for some help in identifying the badges / ribbons on the uniform but also if they give any clue as to what part of the German military he was in and his rank etc. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Am by no means an expert but two diamonds on the shoulder boards I think is Oberfeldweldwebel rank. He's also wearing the EKII and Eastern (Front) medal ribbons which means a picture after May '42 (established May '42). His Infanterie Sturmabzeichen together with his silver (?) wound badge confirms that this man indeed s a vet and has seen action. Not sure what the darker abzeichen lower right is.
Somebody will drop by and add or correct info soon I'm sure.
cheers

The man in the photo is with the Heer [Army].
He is an SNCO ranked Oberfeldwebel as indicated by his shoulder boards. The twin Tresse [braid] rings on his lower sleeves indicate he holds the duty position of Hauptfeldwebel [Company Sergeant Major/First Sergeant].
The ribbons in his buttonhole are for the Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse [Iron Cross 2nd Class] and the Winterschlachtmedaille [Winter Campaign Medal]. The ribbons on his ribbon bar are for the Dienstauszeichnung der Wehrmacht 4. Klasse [Armed Forces Long Service Award 4th Class, i.e. for 4 years of service] and one other award (could be the Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen [West Wall Medal], but the photo is not quite clear enough to be absolutely certain). The pinback awards on the left breast pocket are the Verwundetenabzeichen [Wound Badge] in silver or gold (looks like silver to me), the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen [Infantry Assault Badge] and the Reichssportabzeichen [National Sports Badge].
He is wearing a Feldbluse [field blouse] in pre-war quality and a Dienstmütze [service cap] piped with white Waffenfarbe [branch color] for infantry.Last edited by HPL2008; 06-27-2020, 04:10 AM.

Thank you all for such incredible reply’s. Certainly gives me lots to look into. The only badge that I could previously find that looked close to the bottom right one was the Condor Legion Tank Badge but didn’t know if that made any sense in relation to the rest of the badges / uniform? The only bit of information I have on him is his name and that he was once a bodyguard to Hitler (a family member says close bodyguard) my guess he might have been one of the 100’s/1000 strong bodyguard.
