A Very Telling Hitler Jugend Photograph

This is a Hitler Jugend photograph that I think is pretty amazing. I just picked this up from Germany. You have the pleasant looking mothers and young boy behind the hedge (notice how the middle window frame looks like a cross), the apparent leader with his hand on the back of his neck, and all of the young lads laughing and mugging for the camera. Contrast this with the lad in the center with the armband who is all business and having none of it. Quite a telling photograph and one of the most poignant I have come across.

You have it completely wrong.This an outtake from Harry Potter 3-"Harry Potter and the Wewelsburg Castle".Note that all the boy's bar one are laughing?
That's because poor Harry has forgotten his line's.

On a more serious note,I hope for this boy's sake that he didn't take the whole program too seriously and did manage to survive the war.

I agree with you Andrew, I hope he didn't take things too seriously, hopefully his mates got him to lighten up some.

I read a story about a guy who was suppose to join the HJ but kept ditching out on it. The group leader had to come to his house and talk to his parents about why he wasn't showing up. He had to sign up but once he did he started skipping the meetings. They had to send someone to his house everytime to make sure he would go. He hated it! He did eventually become a PanzerJager and survived the war.
I wonder if this is that guy? "They dress me up in this dumb uniform and make me come to these stupid meetings! I have to be here, but I don't have to be happy about it!"
