    U-Boot pics

I just picked up a RGG photo album which had some U-Boot pics in it.

Can anyone tell me who the RK Captain is and what is the number of the
    U-Boat. Thanks

                  The Snorting Bull - U-47

U-47 (Kptlt. Günther Prien) sported one of the most famous emblems in the war.

Oblt. Engelbert Endrass, the IWO, painted the emblem on the way back from Scapa Flow in October, 1939. The image chosen was based on one seen in a comic book the crew had on board the U-boat. The emblem was adopted by the 7th Flotilla in St. Nazaire and was seen on many boats. It was complicated enough that a template was used to apply it to the boats.

                  Fantastic photos! Thanks for sharing.

It sure looks like Gunther. Maybe someone else can confirm it.

Definitely Prien. Knew before the conning tower shots. Interesting image that first one, EK2 newly awarded, Fliegerbluse? with no eagles impressed into KM service? One looks to have an Observers badge while the other is difficult to make out

Hi Bill, nice photos you have there.!!!

About the photo with the Luftwaffe guys.

June 6 1940, U-47 picked up 3 crewmembers from a german flyingboat who had to make a forced landing at sea, position AN2757.
Photo is taken in Kiel - Germany, at the end of U-47's mission.

                          yours

                            ps.
                            Bill it was U-47s 8th War-Patrol.
Looking at the Luftwaffe crew, I think that:
The man on the right is wearing a -Beobachter Abzeichen in cloth. Navigator.
In the middle -Fliegerschutzen/Bordfunker Abzeichen. Gunner/Radio man.
So the man at the left could be the pilot.

                            Sorry, don't have more info.

                              Eric,

Great information that you provided. I plan on selling these photos and I have at least one person already interested. I now have a general idea on the price ...now that it is confirmed that the Captain is Prien and it's the U-47. Thanks! - Bill

Lloyd...Thank you as well for you confirmation - Bill
