Bingo! IAB and EKII were added later perhaps posthumously? or perhaps he never had an oppertunity to sit for another portrait after the awarding of the medals and had them added?

You got it!! It was done much better than most of the portraits I've seen where an EK1, EK2, or IAB were crudely added.
