            Hi Bill,
#1278 looks like it was used for the design of a death card, hence the accentuated insignia. 14th of Jan. 1943 would be his date of death. Probably with a name on the back you would find a match in the Volksbund.

              Hello Tim,

It could be a good possibility having seen quite a few of these over the years marked in this way I always thought it was marked up to just show that the soldier had been promoted and the date added when taken....normally a cross was added to the date to indicate when the soldier was gestorben (died or KIA). Thanks for providing another possibility to it.

Here are a few new arrivals that came in today's post. LW Tropical Flak soldier wearing a flak badge.

Bill is prag, prague or not in pictures 1282-83?,and there still in there africa uniforms too,is this normal,or they just wanted people to know they had been there or only uniforms on hand. And also that is a goatee beard on his chin of one of them, thats a bit different too,and i thought would not be allowed in the luftwaffe?.

In the same pics interestingly the KM (or is he Heer?) guy in feld grau has no shoulder straps.

                        Cheers, Ade.

PS. Bill I would like to publicly thank you for taking the time to generously share all your pics with us.

Yes, Prag is Prague, just like Wien is Vienna. Soldiers on leave often arrived home in the same uniform in which they departed the front. Of course, it is sexier to strut around in your front uniform, especially from Africa, but your mother will probably insist on washing it thoroughly before long.

                              Ade,

I think at least one of them are KM and I also think both are not wearing their shoulder straps. Thanks for the compliment...much appreciated. Cheers! Bill

This was in the post after coming back from doing some shopping at the base. Kubel.
