                Great pic - very salty. Rank is probably major (i think that is a numerial on the shoulderboards (3?) and not a pip. Yes he is/could be a battalion commander.

                    Hi Willem,

                    Glad you like him. I believe he was a Battalion Commander due to it saying on the back of the photo Abt. Kds. I think that's the abbreviation for Battalion Commander isn't?

                      Abt. I would say is Abteilung or section, but that is not the normal designation for Battalion. Nevertheless the rank would fit with a battalion commander.
