I don’t see any red flags. Good IMO.

That is a very nice document! Have you researched the recipient at all?

For comparison, here is the close up of a Lützow signature from a Jagdgeschwader 3 "Udet" set I researched some time ago.

          Regards Richard.

There are about 1/2 dozen Herbert Schmidt's listed in the Luftwaffe officer records that I have. I wonder if it could be this Schmidt:

SCHMIDT, Herbert. (DOB: 30.01.09 or 31.01.09 in Nautzken Krs. Labiau/Ostpreussen). (R, DKG).
01.04.35 entered the Wehrmacht. 06.36 Fähnrich, trf to the II. Schiffstammabteilung der Ostseee with the
ausbilderpersonal of the Kriegsmarine. 01.04.37 promo to Lt. 13.12.38 assigned to Lw.Gr. Kdo. 1.
31.07.39 promo to Oblt. 1939-43 Stuka pilot. (n.d.) with Erg./St.G. 77. 02.11.42 Ofw., awarded the
              Ehrenpokal. 12.07.43 Ofw. and pilot in a St.G., awarded the DKG. 07.04.44 Lt., 9./SG 3. 09.06.44 Lt.,
              awarded Ritterkreuz, I./SG 3. 22.01.45 in Stab/SG 77 KIA - Fw 190 F-8 during a ferry flight from Poznan
to Märkisch-Friedland, crashed in bad weather about 15 km NE of Neubrandenburg. Buried in Glienke.
Credited with 2 victories in over 600 missions.

I have narrowed the recipient to these 3 officers (it is actually a long range fighter document). I think he would be one of the last 2. If anyone can verify whichunit owul dav ebeen under Lutzow in '44 that migth help narrow it down the recipient.

Gary, on the evidence of the above, I would say that 'this' Herbert Schmidt has a good chance of being the man you seek although, I cannot state this with 100% certainty.

As an aside, are you aware that the 2020 updated edition of the Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries have just been issued? There might be something concerning the Herbert Schmidt you seek in the Change Log. It is always worth taking a look.

                  Regards Richard.

Thanks for the reply. I was not aware there was a new version of the officer records, thanks for that info as well.
