    Rumpfkompanie?

    Hello all,

I was researching some Soldbücher and I have 2 Soldbücher who served first in the 1. / Panzer-regiment 22, 21. Panzer-Division. Later on they went through the Rumpfkompanie 1./22. I searched for information about what a Rumpfkompanie is but I coudn't find any usefull information.

They went to this Rumpfkompanie after the Normandy battles, when the 21. Panzer-Division was destroyed and lost most of their equipment. I was thinking it was some kind of a Kompanie where they gathered all the men to be devided later on or so. I am familiar with the translation of the word but I hope to get some more information for my research about these units.

Here I found also a man who was in the Rumpfkompanie 22:

    Thanks in advance!

I think your assumption is correct.

Rumpfkompanie could translate to 'Shell Company.'

While I don't see any other references out there, it makes sense. A normal replacement battalion would be 'Ersatz-Bataillon', but in a fluid situation where they are gathering every available body, they would assemble them into local units before re-assigning them, in my opinion.
