        The unit info is seen on the spade patch above the armband. I don't have the reference to find out what the numbers indicate but an identification would be possible.

          To me, that looks like a 36 over a 1 which would be 1/36 RAD Abteilung.

          This link is to the most comprehensive lists of RAD units I know of, and unfortunately, it doesn't list 36.

          Either my eyes are wrong, or it's just not on this list.

            Some see the RAD patch as 1/36, but I see it as 1/34. Your great Uncle served in Abteilung 1 of RAD Gruppe 34 of Reichs Arbeits Gau 3 which was Wartheland-West. Unfortunately, Abteilung 1/34 is not listed in that link.
