    Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 9.

    It was organized on April 13, 1943 on the military training area Bruck an der Leitha, in Military District (WK) XVII, by the reclassification of the Kradschützen battalion (AA) 59 and subordinated to the 9th Panzer Division. The lineup was completed on May 10, 1943, the detachment now consisted of:
    -HQ
    - 1st (Pz.Späh) company "Achtrad"
    - 2nd (Pz.Späh) company "Luchs"
    - 3rd (lei.SPW) company with 36 lMG
    - 4th (lei SPW) company with 36 lMG
    - 5th (heavy) company with PzPi.- Pak and gun Pl 7.5 cm
    - 6. Supply Company

    Pz-Späh - recce armored vehicle.
    lei. SPW - Schützenpanzerwagen - light AFV (half-tracks).

    First CO - Hauptmann Rudolf von Bünau Creation - August 15, 1943
    then: Hauptmann Engelbert Bockhoff August 15,1943 - October 29, 1944

    The first assignment was experienced at the Operation "Citadel" on July 5, 1943. On July 12, 1943, the detachment was thrown into the Orel bulge, where it fought south of Ssuchinitschi. The detachment remained in the Orel bulge and participated in the withdrawal battles of Army Group South. On October 7, 1943, the detachment fought near Saporoshje.

    The 9. Pz: From April 1943, the division was re-organized south of Orel in preparation for the offensive at Kursk and partially reclassified. On July 5, the began Operation "Citadel". The 9. Panzer Division was in the 2nd line and fought for eight days through the Russian position system on Kursk. Then the attack was stopped and the division moved to the area north of Orel, where it was employed against the start of the Russian offensive. Then begins the German retreat to the west. It endured heavy defensive fighting, until the division was pulled out of the front on August 25 and shifted south to the threatened Mius section on the Sea of Azov.
