How was leave granted in the Wehrmacht?

Hi everyone, I had a question about leave time for troops in the Wehrmacht. Would this be granted on a time served at the front basis? For instance, you served a year on the front and thus you would be granted with a week leave from the front? I was also wondering if leave could be granted based on the award of a German Cross in Gold / Knights Cross or any higher variation of Knights Cross? Thanks again for any help on this question guys.
