I am searching about a soldier buried today at Cernjachovsk. He is recorded as killed at Neustadt on 18th August 1944. What town is and what unit fought there?

1) I think you are right with the location and that (this) Neustadt = Naumiestis.
2) Here is a map from 1.9.44 :

that :
a) confirms the German designation (Neustadt to the right of the Gruppe Oberst Schirmer).
b) It also shows some of the units that were present near Neustadt already on 18.8.44 :
1. ID, 549. Gren.Div., perhaps 561. Gren.Div.
and also the StuG Brigaden listed.
In addition elements of 6. Pz.Div. were South of Neustadt. (Gr. Schirmer was not there)
3) Is there any other info on this soldier ? Otherwise it will be difficult to make even a guess on his unit...
