"Am" could be the abbreviated rank "Arbeitsmann" Unit:
RAD (Reichs-Arbeits-Dienst).

I missed the replies to this thread for some reason...thanks. I think you are both right about the RAD rank...I hadn't thought of that. The helmet is a Luftwaffe M35 camo. It may have belonged to someone in a RAD flak unitComment
