    Info on I./Pz.Rgt.HG please

    Hi All,

I ve learned that I./Panzer Regiment HG was taken out of the front in Italy in March/April 1944 to be sent to Holland and be equipped with PANTHERS.

Does Anyone know when the Abteilung returned back to the Regiment with those Panthers?

    thank you

    Daniele

I can only help you for Italy Daniele, where Hermann Goering Div. was equipped until his withdrawal from the Italian front (mid July 1944) only with Stug III Pz III and Pz IV

Thanks Oriano which means those are the II and III Abteilungen that were left in Italy without the I.Abt.

The HG will leave Italy on 15.July so I presume the I.Abt of the Pz Rgt HG will be back with the Panthers probably at that time

        Hello Daniele !

Things were more complicated. The following is a summary from what can be found
on this I./Abt. in : "Firebrigades, by Kamen Nevenkin".

Orders were given in March, 1944, that this Abteilung should convert to Pz. V (Panther).
The Abteilung arrived at Utrecht on 16. April. However, the reorganization was delayed, possibly due to
a lack of tanks. In July, the Abteilung was transferred to Grafenwöhr training ground, close to Erlangen,
where the Panther-Lehrgänge (training courses) of the Heer were organized.

The Abteilung stayed at Grafenwöhr until some time in October 44. Then it was transferred to the East, to rejoin
the HG-Pz.Division again in ~mid October, which was reorganizing near Schlossberg (East Prussia) at that time.
Until end of October, the I./Abt. Fs.Pz.Rgt. HG was equipped with a total of 60 Panther tanks.

        Best regards,

        Archi
