Thanks to Carl Evans and Carl's friend Eirch Brown we have managed to find out the pilot of the Me 109 in my Grandads photo.

The pilot was Unteroffizier Wolfgang Bierstedt, who was killed in this aircraft while taking off from Merduma. It was listed as 100% written off.
Erich says he imagines that the aircraft was set back onto its legs and that the pilot must have gone through the canopy or hit his head on the revi or dash, being that the aircraft looks in pretty good shape.
Thanks again Carl, Eirch and everyone else that helped (Including those who helped with the tank!)!!!
