Can anyone tell me who commanded Wehrkreis VII on May 8 1944? I haven't been able to locate this info on the web. Thanks!

It was General der Infanterie Karl Kriebel RK (4.7.1940 as Gen.Maj. u. Kdr. 56 Inf.Div.)

Thanks Ian...as it turns out, I asked the wrong question though. It appears that I am looking for the Deputy, or perhaps acting? commander...

              Wehrkries VII

The commander was Karl Kriebel, a personal friend of Hitler and brother of the Kriebel who was the military commander of the 1923 Putsch in Munich.
This is NOT Kriebel's signature. I have his autographed picture and his Grosse Urkunde for the Knight's Cross, so I can tell you that it is not his.

Thanks Rick...Ron, as I said the document was not actually signed by the commander, but his representative (I.V.), which in the case must have been Graf.

                    Are you sure Rick?

I found Karl Graf but only that he was in Führer Reserve during this time...

                      No other Generalleutnant Graf.

Having retired there from command of Division 467, for whatever reason, must have been senior available local officer.

Can't explain it, just going by what it says.

                        Hi!

As Rick says, there was only 1 GenLt. Graf and at the time he was on the Führer-Reserve, Wehrkreis VII from 2 Nov 1943 - 8 Sep 1944 which puts him in the right place at the right time.

                        Regards,
