    help on ss battalion

    ive asked before with no luck, so fingers crossed. does anyone know what ss division/ police unit served in the 3rd ost 643 batt. ive a double ss rune helmet with it stamped on the liner. cheers phil.

    Is that how it's written in the lid? I would expect 3./ Ost-Btl.643. The unit became IV./Grenadier Regiment 582 of the 319 Inf div in 1944 based in the Channel Islands until the war's end. The Btl. was originally formed in March '43 in the area of AOK4 in Russia, it was then moved to NW France in Oct.43 before being moved to the Channel islands as mentioned above.
    Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
