Major Erich Schulz?

Anyone help with any info on Erich Schulz?
I have found the following but not much!!!
Herr Schulz commanded Fallschirm MG Bataillon 1.8.1940-1941 (Crete), IV/Fallschirm Ausbildungs Regiment 1 1941-2.3.1943, Fallschirmschule III 2.3.1943- ?.

Are you sure about this? There was no numbered Fsch.M.G.Btl. until 1943, only Fsch.M.G.Btl. under 7.Flieger-Division, I believe. Uffz. Steineckert writes in his album <i>Fallschirm-Fla.M.G.Batl.</i> They were equipped with interesting 2cm Gebirgsflaks.

Thanks Ian for sharing your Ausweis with us. I too have an Ausweis which belonged to a member of the same unit, which I believe was Fsch. M.G. Btl. der 7 Flieger Korps.

My Ausweis belonged to Gefreiter Walter Bolhe, (surname is only a guess as it is difficult to read).

The Ausweis was issued in Gardelegen and is dated 19 March, 1940. The Ausweis is numbered 71 and only the first two boxes for 1940 have been filled in. Perhaps Bolhe was killed during the invasion of Holland in May 1940. Is there some way I can confirm this?

The Ausweis was signed by the same person who signed Ian's Ausweis, who at the time held the rank of Hauptman. The signature I believe is that of Erich Schulz.

As the commander of a unit, I would expect that he would receive Ausweis No. 1.

Given the date of issue of Ian's Ausweis, I assume that this is a replacement for an earlier Ausweis and that the serial number accorded same has been retained.

Does anyone know what date Hauptmann Erich Schulz was promoted to Major?

And a belated thanks to Akira for the photo!

I do not think that the signature is that of Schulz as to me it looks like it has an "e" on the end i.e. Schulze or Schütze? It is signed by a Major und Stabs Offizier of Fligerhorst Kompanie Gardelegen. The CO of this unit was Oberst Bruno Wustrau or Oberst Gerhard Berlin at that time.

Erich Schulz did not transfer from the Army until after the French campaign as he was Kompanie Chef with MG Btl. 5 still in June 1940. I would therefore presume that this is first and only Fliegendes Personal Ausweis.
According to Mehner he took over command 1.8.1940.

It has validation stamps to the point when he was no longer a "front line" officer. I can not find the letter confirming this at the moment but he was injured or wounded on Crete on the first few days....I think ending his front line service and transferring to replacement units.

Thinking about it I do have a document signed by Schulz....I will go and dig this out.

Interestingly is it not unusual for a Major to be signing an EK II document? Normally General or acting C.O. of the Division!
This is the type that I have encountered for the Crete campaign both for Fsch. MG Btl. and 5 Gebirgs personnel!
