I am looking for some help researching a last name. A friend of mine has a pea-coat with the name Hertzsch on a white tag with red letters. Uboatwaffe is no longer available & I am trying to determine if there were any M Obgfr in the uboat fleet with that name. Anyone know of another site to research? Jacket has a torpedo mechanic specialist patch.

I found this Kriegsmarine soldier in the Volksbund list with the name Hertzsch:

Vorname:Martin
Dienstgrad:Gefreiter
Geburtsdatum: 1923
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 10.12.1942

Martin Hertzsch ist als gefallener Angehöriger der Marine namentlich entweder in dem U-Boot-Ehrenmal Möltenort bei Kiel an einer der Wandtafeln oder im Marineehrenmal in Laboe in einem dort ausliegenden Gedenkbuch verzeichnet.

I would urge caution assuming this is your man, a torpedo mechanic could equally be found on destroyers, torpedo boats and S-boats.

Eberhard Hertzsch is the only one in U-boat service who fits and he served on U-772
