    Birresborn, Eifel, Germany Air Bombing

    Hi Folks:

I wanted to share with you some pictures of a Birresborn war memorial I found when we were staying in a B&B. I knew nothing about this town but when we walked downtown in this small village this month...I found a memorial listing many WWI and WWII dead of the village. What struck me were all the deaths of families from an air bombing on 25 Dec 1944 and 2 Jan 1945. I wasn't aware but it was an American bombing of the town due to the Panzer Lehr Division having a maintenance unit in the area. See the attached photos....

thanks for sharing these pictures, but I'm afraid the Panzer Lehr Div. wasn't there at that time...

Hmmmm strange.....then the books and writings and the web is wrong (which doesn't surprise me)...;-)

I see that you are in St. Vith.....I was just in St. Vith...and saw the 106th Inf Div memorial since my wife's uncle was captured outside of St. Vith in the Schnee Eifel...he was a Company Commander (Captain) within the 106th Inf Div.

I read the following which talks about a "Panzer Lehr" maintenance depot being there and being destroyer by a bombing.

If wrong....which unit was in Birresborn (besides just Germans)? Thanks,
