Gentlemen,
I'm looking for information regarding a soldier with the 85th Reconnaissance Squadron, 5th Armored Division, in the spring of 1945 time frame. The soldier is Edmund Hockaday.
Sometime in the spring of 1945, Hockaday and a fellow soldier were on motorized (jeep) patrol in the vicinity of Thuringian (Forrest?), Germany, when they encountered two German soldiers; one described as "Volk Service", the other a young SS trooper. Hockaday and has buddy captured both of them. Hockaday took a P-38 from the SS soldier.
I've done some searching, but haven't been able to discover a combat report or after-action (such a minor incident, perhaps there never was one). Any sources, or information related to Hockaday, the incident or the two POWs would be of great interest and greatly appreciated.
