    Pictures of my GREAT-GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER

Here is my third great grandfather in the German army in 1879. My grandfather always told me he was a general but when I looked him up in the war graves it said he was a major. Maybe someone could tell me exactly what he was from the medals and the uniform? I always wanted to know what it says on the back of the copy of this postcard, maybe someone could translate some of it?

Very nice to have something like this from the own family.
      date is 1872, not 1879

Maybe better to make high resolution pics of each section of the inscription as the pic provided is too small for reading...

        My mistake, I meant 1872.

          Hallo Stephen

In the BSB Bayerische StaatsBibliothek – MDZ Munchener DigitalisierungZentrum Digitale Bibliothek there are quite the full records of the Rang und Quartier Liste of the Prussian Royal Army.

For example, in the year 1873 book there is an entry as Ing. vom Platz Strassburg: Oberst Grund, Engineers’ Corps HQ.

With some little patience you could be able to know his full military life (inclusive of his appointments and awards).

          Best regards

          Marcello

            Stephan,
That portion of your family history is truly interesting. I look forward to future discoveries about your Gx3 grandfather.
