    Viktor Vitali

Could this be RKT (Knight´s Cross Holder) Viktor Vitali?
    Not many paratroopers wore glasses.

Hi Ludwig, it could be... but to say that not many Fallschirmjaeger wore glasses is quite a sweeping statement. I think think all branches had their share of "Brille-traeger".... Nice photo and I hope it is Viktor after all :-)

Perhaps it´s a "sweeping statement", but I hang on to it.
I think it´s quite common for para units all over the world (and other elite units) to demand good eyes. Have you seen many Fallschirmjäger that also were Brillenträger?

        Hello,
I agree that any elite unit requires higher standards - both physically and mentally. But the standard for eye's are not so great for Infantrymen and Para's were infantrymen for most of the war. I have just had a medical for the British Army and I am going for the Para's and those with average to excellnt eyesight were still passed. Talking from personal experience, yes I have seen more Heer soldiers wearing glasses than their Fallschirmjaeger counterparts. The reason you don't see as many is because there were a lot fewer Fallschirmjaeger and original photos for Fallschirmjager are quite scarce... just my opinion. Nice photo - no doubt about that p.s. I actually think this man may be a Kriegsberichter and if so, not Vitali.

Found another photo of the same man. Vitali was commissioned officer in July 1942...

                  Hi guys!

Viktor was a member of 1./Flakscheinwerfer-Abteilung 648 until April 1944, so I don't think it is him in the first 2 pictures, also because he had been promoted to Leutnant in July 1942, the man on the pics is an NCO.
