Need German unit info.

Hi. I am doing some research on some German militaria that I have received from a vet of the 3rd infantry division. It is a belt and buckle (heer). The vet acquired it after repulsing a German counterattack in late June/early July 1944 (he doens't remember the exact date) in a small French town called Vidouville.
His company was attached with some American tank destroyers and they stopped the counterattack cold! The town is north of the Normandy beaches heading into the interior
Can anyone tell me which German units were located in the Vidouville area at that time?
Any help here is appreciated.

I don't know if this is much help, it's an account of the 5th US Infantry Divisions action at Vidouville.
The town is about 5 or so miles east of St.Lo, and the account mentions German paratroops

Wasn't the 3rd I.D. in Italy?

Thanks Steve....my mistake - I did mean the 5th I.D. / not the third!!! Thanks for info. I'll give it a good read. Don't know if it mentions the German units in the area though. I'll check it out. Thanks again.

Hi again RobI've just dug out a book with a situation map for the 9th July and it shows the 352nd Infantry and 3rd Parachute Divisions (part of II Para Corps) from west to east around St. Lo, with the 2nd and 2nd SS Panzer Divs in reserve to the southwest and southeast.
I hope that helps (I don't want to set any red herrings)

Thanks Steve....the belt and buckle that I have aren't Para or LW. They are Heer. Now I can attribute it (through assumption / I'll never really know) that it was from the 352nd Infantry.
