In Hitler's U-Boat War , the hunted 1942-1945 By Clay Blair Ed.Cassell 1999
Destroyer "Champlain" dropped 21 depht charges.These savaged U-856 and forced her to the surface and "Champlain "rammed the U-856: 28 survivors of U-856 included Wittenberg.
