    Occupation of Hungary

I have this death card and found that he was killed in Székesfehérvár, HUNGARY. I am looking to see what Artillery units might have been in that location during the time of his death. It was during the end of 1944 so I think it happened during Operation Panzerfaust.

What makes you think that he died in Hungary?
I think he died at Jekaterinowka, in South-Ukraine.
Or did you upload the wrong picture?
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

The best fitting entry on the volksbunde site. Why do you think South-Ukraine? All I got off the card it self is soviet Russia.

Thanks. I didn't think about him having a different first name.

So far I have narrowed it down to armee group a. Having trouble finding what unit was near nikopol. A battle map would be great.

I found this map in the archive on my computer.
It doesn't help much, but you can see the army's under the Armeegruppe.

That is very helpful. It looks like it is a toss up between 1 PZ and 6 A.

Found this bit of information: February 2, 1944

In the north, Red Army forces enter Estonia and capture Vanakula. To the South, 4th Ukrainian Front joins the offensive against Nikopol, threatening to surround the German 6th Army defending the area. The 1st Ukrainian Front takes Luzk and Rovno.

                    Now it's a matter of deciding which art. Regiment; 94. Gebirges-Art.-Reg; 85. Art.-Reg.; 173. Art.-Reg.; or 453. Feldausbildungs Art.-Reg.

Further research leads to the IV Korps around that area. Another interesting find states that a Major General Wolfgang Elster died in Nikopol Bridgehead and was part of the Panzer Artillery Regiment 27.
