How do you find out if you have you have family in the wehrmact?

    Hi Guys,

I know its a long shot looking for relatives when you do not have a good family history but my grandfather was German. I'm not quite sure when he came over or of his parents came over and he was born here. He died long ago but I do remember he had a accent. Well to get to the point is there any way to find out if there were any Neidlein's in the wehrmacht?

    Thanks,

I'm not an expert on genealogy but i would guess your first place to start would be to find out your families history at least as far back as that generation. There's ample information on how you can go about that on the internet, a quick search with google should get you started. If you find out that your grandfather was born at any time between about 1890 and 1929 in the greater German Reich, not just Germany and that he moved to the USA after 1945 (or between 1942-45 if he was a pow) then you may have reasonable cause to think he did serve.

Is there no one in your family who could tell you when he was born and where?
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

I have tried asking my mother but she really has no clue of when my father or his parents came over. She can literally tell me close to nothing. I will try to find out some sort of tree on the internet to the best of my ability.

      Thanks,
