For a start you can not search for anything with an umlaut in!
      i.e. ü, ö, ä etc.

        Hi,

I saw the advertisement of the digital Tessin works on Detlev's site and I wondered if anyone had any experience with it. How does it work, is it an acrobat reader file or can I open files in "word"? Is there a query to search with?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

        <o></o>

Simon if this is the wrong place to ask this question please move it.<o></o>

It actually uses a program called Td which is provided....all what you see can be cut and pasted for quick reference.

Downside as I mentioned above is searching for anthing with an "umlaut".
Also I think they used OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to compile the CD and there a quite a number of mistakes.....For example I made a search for (I think it was this one!) I.V. SS ArmeeKorps but it could not be found..when manually trawling through the database it was there as LV. 55 Armeekorps...needless to say the OCR has errors!

But for the price it far beats Tessin printed version! Even though I have these as well

              /Ian

Has anyone tried these Tessin discs on a Macintosh computer? I'd like to pick up a set but need to know if I'll be able to read them.

I must admit I picked this up a few weeks ago, but only had a chance to look at it over Xmas, but I have not found it very user friendly yet Hopefully with time

I've had it for about a year now too- truly it's not exactly the most user-friendly thing ever but I do find it extremely useful. Often one has to simply search for a unit number and scroll through the list to find the type- particularly painful if the number is less than 30 because the program will find ANY number and one that could be a date will add a LOT of hits to your search. It didn't take all that long to get reasonably good at finding what I'm looking for- you just have to be a little creative sometimes.
