1./schw.pz.Jag.Abt 655.

Hello Iam looking for any information on the following unit 1./Schw.Pz.Jag.Abt 655, Iam in the middle of buying the group to a soldier who was in the unit, it is his tank badge in silver, iron cross 2nd class +30 photos, any help is appriciated.

Hi Steven, the 655th Panzerjager was created 15.4.1944, WK III, Berlin. Was originally equiped with Nashorn SdKfz 164 and sometime in late 1944 was re-equipped as a Jagdpanther battalion. The 655th was an independent unit which fought in Russia then as part of the 1st Parachute Army fought in Belgium and Holland and in May 1945 surrendered in Northwestern Germany. To quote from "Nafziger" regarding these Jagdpanther units - "exceptional and interesting formations" , "contained some of the most exotic equipment of the German Army".

1./655 was created from remnants of 521 (so it was called Kp.521/s.Pz.Jg.Abt.655 for some time). Pretty interesting unit, you know what they had...
