    Info on 4./Gren.Rgt.315

I am trying to find any information on this particular regiment. My uncle served with this regiment and was captured by the Russians at some point. Unfortunately my uncle passed away in the 1980's before I was old enough to inquire about his service. I have now inherited all of his military items and would like to research his regiment. If anyone has any information or can point me to a good resource, I would be greatly appreciative.

I can do no better than get you started i'm afraid. Lexikon der Wehrmacht gives you a quick overview of the regiments parent divisions, the 167 and 376 ID. Tantalisingly there was a regimental history written for the 315, i've had a quick search on google and at zvab (German search engine for antiquarian books) but can only find it reffered to by the Lexikon and at the Bundesarchiv.

Hi Simon, thank you for the links it is further than I have been able to get. Do you think the CD set that Detlev offered on yesterday's update may help? I know that they fought in Russia at least up until my Uncle became a POW with the Russians. I have a Feldpost letter dated 1942 when he was at the Russian front.

        Hi Richard

I assume the Tessin set on CD is what you're refering to? In this case it won't give you any more info than is already on the Lexikon der Wehrmacht website. However if you're interested in general research of the wehrmacht then Tessin is invaluable.

Thanks Simon. I still have not forgotten to send you some scans of the Steinbrink documents. Just have not been able to dig them out of whichever box of the several I have in the closet yet.

            Hi Richard,

I have a few to 167 ID. Three are sort of written up although I have a lot more detail.

The links in the write ups themselves dn't work yet - neither do the scans for these three just yet.

            Cheers,
            Gary.
