    Soldier name

    Hello,

I have this Luftwaffe helmet with the soldier's name of Zelenko and the feldpost # L21068 inside the helmet.

I was thinking of the name, it doesn't appear to be German could it be the name of a White Russian and / or HiWi Emigrnt Volunteer in the service of the Luftwaffe?

I'm looking for input on the name and appreciate any help.

I've attached a picture of the name and feldpost painted on the inside of the helmet.

    Thanks, John

    Zelenko is Ukrainian.

But Germans also did marry partners from other countries.

Zelenko was also the last name of a woman Russian (Ukrainian) fighter pilot.

      Hello,

That is interesting, Ukraine and not Russian. I'm thinking most likely a volunteer after German liberated their county from the Russia.

There is no rank in front of his name or anywhere in the helmet, so he must have been a simple soldier.

      Thanks for the help.

He probably was an ethnic German. There are three matches to the name on the German War graves site with that last name.

21068 belonged to the transport staffel of the V fliegerkorps, subsequently luftflotte 6 in the Ukraine
