17TH Cav or Recon in Africa

Hello I have a uniform Afrikakorp Major Cav or Recon Piping with 17 Ciphers. I will get some pics posted of the uniform. It is restored but the collar tabs and shoulder boards appear original to the tunic. Does anyone know of a WW2 German 17th Cavalry or Reconnaissance unit serving there. I thought I read somewhere that they received heavy losses in Russia and were sent to France for rest and refit then sent to Tunisia to reinforce Rommel for new offensive? Thank TPK

The DAK and 10th Pz Div in Tunisia did not have a "17" recon or cav unit. It is possible that someone from this unit transferred to Tunisia however.
Highly recommend that you post the tunic in the Herr Uniforms & Insignia Forum here on the WAF. Many cyphers have been added to tunics post war to add some imagined history...
