    SB Wachkommando Führerhauptquartier Wolfsschanze

    Hello,

I need a little bit of your help to my new Soldbuch research project, not a D-Day one this time but also a interesting one:

I recently acquired a Soldbuch of a man, born in 1897, drafted into the army in 1943. According his Soldbuch he had no awards but his picture in his soldbuch show clearly a ribbon. He served with the "Wachkommando Führerhauptquartier Wolfsschanze"(FP: 39402) in 1944, we all know of the Bomb plot on 20 July 1944 to assassinate Hitler. Of course I will show the Soldbuch after I have the complete research as all the other Soldbücher I posted on the forum.

I found many information about the Wolfsschanze and it's defense. Sperrkreis I and Sperrkreis 2 were guarded by the Reichsicherheitsdienst(RSD). Sperrkreis 3 was defended by the Führer-Begleit-Bataillon. But there is no special information about the "Wachkommando Führerhauptquartier Wolfsschanze" Can anybody tell me what the task of this Wachkommando(guard detachment, but in what grade)? Was this unit part of the Führer-Begleit-Bataillon? For what part of the Wolfsschanze they were responsible? The answers will help me understand in what place he was when the bomb placed by Von Stauffenberg exploded.

What books do you advice with information about this Wachkommando?

Hope anyone can help me with this questions.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Aram

Some maps of the Wolfsschanze to clarify the Sperrkreise, maybe these will help to clarify the function of the Wachkommando.

The map showed three times the letter L(Wache), at the three entrances of the Wolfsschanze, the Waches. My suggestion would be that the Wachkommando Führerhauptquartier Wolfsschanze guarded these three Waches?

    What do you think?

I could guess but that has little value. I went to Peter Hoffmann's authoritative "Hitler's Personal Security" and he does not record this unit in the index. Many others are mentioned. I assume you have checked the FPN to the register to ensure it lists the unit the same way?

              Hello,

Sorry for my late reply but I wanted to wait when I can show you some photo's.

His name is Martin Lewitzka, born on 18.09.1897 in Briessen, Cottbus. As I said there aren't any awards listed in his Soldbuch but his Soldbuch photo shows a ribbon..

There are some very interesting stamps related to the Wolfsschanze.

The stamp 39402(related to the Wolfsschanze) was used 3 times in his SB on 24.03.1944 when he was on leave. On 01.04.1944 when he was promoted and also his photo was stamped with this Feldpostnummer.

FP. Number: 39402 - Wachkommando Wolfsschanze Führerhauptquartier.

An other interesting stamp is Feldpostnummer: 27866 on 28.04.1944 on page 16: Ajutantur der Wehrmacht beim Führer und Reichskanzler Militärkommandant Führerhauptquartier und Stabskompanie

              Units:

All in line B(Jetzt zuständige Ersatztruppenteil):

              - Marschkp. Grenadier-ersatz-Bataillon 162 in Lyck, a city not far from Rastenburg!
              - Stammkp. Grenadier-ersatz-Bataillon 23, first in Rastenburg(!!) and later Bartenstein
              - Grenadier-ersatz-Bataillon 2
              - 2./Wach-Bataillon KBG(Königsberg?)

There is 1 unit listed as Feldtruppenteil: 561 Volks-Grenadier Division, but this unit was created in October 1944.

Interesting to see is that he was transferred on 10.01.1944 from the Marschkp. to another unit but I have no clue to what unit(maybe because it was secret?) but in the next months the feldpostnumbers related to the Wolfsschanze appeared; no unit names, feldpostnumbers or unit abbreviations only the FP.nummers. From August 1944 he was in the Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 2, the Wach Bataillon and the 561 V.G.D.

I presume he was transferred on 10.01.1944 from the Marschkp. 162 to the Wolfsschanze for duties over there? What do you think? Maybe someone knows the name of the Hauptmann who signed these entries, that could give us some clues.

              Thanks and Best Regards,

              Aram

And here are more pictures of the Soldbuch, related to the story in the previous post! Based on the photo's with the information I think we can conclude he had a relation with the Wolfsschanze but how far was he involved over there is the question.

Interesting Soldbuch. From page 16 he was also with the Adjutantur der Wehrmacht beim Führer und Reichskanzler Militärkommandant Führerhauptquartier und Stabskompanie. He likely would have been working out of one of the sub offices of the Stabskompanie doing some type of support duties; administrative, motor transport, and signals come to mind. Which makes total sense if he was 47 years old. Not as a member assigned to one of the FBB Wachkompanies, but perhaps seconded from the Stabskompanie while at the Wolfschanze in a support role to them while temporarily assigned to the Wolfschanze before going to the 561st VGD.

Edward, thanks for your reply! I didn't see many Soldbücher/Wehrpasses/Ausweis with a direct Wolf's Lair connection so far.

His Soldbuch also included his Blutspenderausweis. Probably he won his Iron Cross(?) in the first World War and that's the reason it is not mentioned in his soldbuch.

Thanks for showing the pic mtdr. Over the past decades those items/groups I have seen connected to the Wolfschanze were mostly FBB related.

The missing WWI EK II award entry in the Soldbuch happened not infrequently. Much depended on the vagaries of the unit personnel office. Some did, while others did not. I have seen examples where a serviceman had multiple WWI awards entered into his Wehrpass, but not in the Soldbuch.

Nice to put a face to the Soldbuch showing his award for WWI service. Thanks for sharing.
