Agreed Tim. Pretty impressive he hit almost all major theaters and survived! Annexation, Poland, France, Russia, Afrika.

Jentz book ordered and on its way! Can't wait to research more

Another couple books to help in your research, Col. Von Mellenthin's "Panzer Battles" starts in Poland, France, Greece & Afrika then Russia...was on Rommel's Staff, accounts of battles, tactics, & weapon systems are all covered in detail.

Rick Atkinson's "An Army at Dawn" is a good book on the Tunisian campaign. Very detailed, descibes how the USA learned to fight the German's & the how the Allies really missed an opportunity to end the War in Afrika months earlier than May 13, 1943.

As mentioned in the Soldbuch thread related to this there is the Pz.Rgt. 5 history, however I did not see your man mentioned in the book:

"Geschichte des Panzerregiments 5 1935-1943 und der Panzerabteilung 5 1943-1945" by Bernd Hartmann

I realize this thread is over 5 years old now, but I found this today while trying to research a tunic:
